BlogNov 2025 Reflection

Ever since the beginning of the year, I’ve been wanting to do a mini reflection on how the first BlogNov went, but never got around to actually writing anything. So, four and a half months later, I guess I’ll just start writing!

Overall, I think my first attempt at doing a BlogNov went quite well. Even though I stopped writing a little over halfway through the month, I still managed to more than double the number of posts on the blog, add an RSS feed, and completely rework the last modified dates at the bottom of pages, which I’d been wanting to do for a while.

One of the biggest reasons I lost the motivation to write was that I felt like my posts were getting less and less substantial. Like, rather than having an idea for a post and ruminating on it for a few weeks before getting around to writing for a few days, I had to go from idea to final product within 24 hours. While some posts were good, I felt that most lacked any real thought, and were just a couple paragraphs of me rambling about whatever was on my mind that day. Besides lacking substance, this also got exhausting pretty quickly, so I stopped.

For BlogNov later this year, I’ll probably adjust the rules a little to allow myself to write without the requirement of making a finished post every day. In the meantime, I’ve got a few more posts that have been on the back burner for a few months now, so hopefully they’ll see the light of day soon!
